Eisenstadt is located in the south-eastern part of Austria, in the Burgenland region (it is in fact the capital of the region). Its German name (Eisen - iron) refers to the flourishing iron-trade during the 14th century. The history of Eisenstadt is strongly connected to the history of the Esterhazy family, since the city belonged to the family for more than 3 centuries. The city has several cultural and historical sights in relation to the Esterhazy family, like the castle built during the 17th century.
