Nowadays skiing is one of the most popular winter sports. The sport originates from Northern Europe from Norway. The two main types of skiing are alpine skiing and cross-country skiing. Most of the Austrian provinces (Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Carinthia, Salzburg, Styria, Tyrol and Vorarlberg) has excellent ski slopes and ski trucks. Flocks of tourists arrive to the ski areas of Austria in winter and spring because of the good quality of the ski trucks. You can reach the slopes easily because in most of the ski resorts there are ski busses running, which take you to the ski lifts. Those who book accommodation near ski slopes can find the ski lifts just for a few steps from the hotel. Almost all ski resorts have light slopes so that the beginners can easily acquire this fine sport. Many places offer mini slopes for children.
Near most of the ski slopes you can have lunch, café or tea in small self-service restaurants (Hütte). In the evening you can relax in a bar or restaurant or you can visit a disco, .etc.
