The Southern Railway Station (Südbahnhof) is located in the 4th district (Wieden) of Vienna. If you are looking for accommodation in this area, you should consider the following options:

1) Hotel Congress is located right across from the train station on the Wiedner Gürtel. It is a 3-star hotel with 75 rooms and a restaurant. Its rates are usually much lower than average room rates in Vienna, and another positive thing about this hotel is that metro line U1 stops right in front of it, giving you easy access to the center of the city.

2) Also along the Wiedner Gürtel, you will find Hotel Prinz Eugen, which is a 4-star hotel (member of Austria Hotels Chain). The standard rooms face the railway station, while the superior rooms are more quiet, facing the inner courtyard.

3) Located a few minutes walk from the station, Hotel Pension Attaché offers 26 elegant rooms of 4-star quality. This hotel has a garage as well. The State Opera is about a 10-15 minute walk from Hotel Pension Attaché, with an easy stroll along Wiedner Hauptstrasse.

4) Mozart Apartments offers fully equipped studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments in a quiet little street, close to Wiedner Gürtel and the Südbahnhof (3 minutes walk). These are private apartments, with a lot more space than a standard hotel room in the city. There is a large supermarket near the apartments, so you can easily fill-up your refrigerator. You can walk to the State Opera in 15-20 minutes, or take the tram for 3-4 stops to Nachmarkt/Opera.
