You can easily reach Austria by train from almost all European countries. The major railway association of Austria is the Österreichische Bundesbahnen (ÖBB). The EuroCity trains are the fastest; the InterCity trains connect the bigger cities. If you intend to visit cities it is worth travelling by train as it is the fastest type of transport. The trains are comfortable, clean and the ticket rates are moderate. The ÖBB offers various types of price reductions e.g. for smaller groups and for young people.
  • Groups of 2 to 5 peole can buy ERT (Einfach-Raus-Ticket) ticket for 29 EURO. You can travel with this ticket within a day unlimited. On weekdays it is valid after 09:00 a.m.
  • People under 26 years can buy a VorteilsCard at the rate of 19,9 EURO. It is valid only with a photo. The owner of the card get 45% price reduction on all trains in Austria and 25% price reduction abroad in Europe. VorteilsCard is available also for people over 26 years. It costs 99 EURO. Women over 60 and men over 65 can buy it for 26,9 EURO.
  • The ÖBB-Sommericket offers the biggest discount. You can travel unlimited in July and August within the ÖBB network (except weekdays 0:00-8:00 a.m.). The rate for people under 20 is 19,9 EURO, for people 20-26 it costs 39,9 EURO.

Tickets bought from a ticket machine are valid for every train as these tickets are not scheduled. You can get information about the timetables at the railway station or ont he website of ÖBB.
